Managed IT Services

How Much Do Managed IT Services Actually Cost in Brisbane?

The short answer

Novaguard runs three fixed-fee tiers: Perimeter $130, Fortress $190, and Iron Dome $240 per user, per month. Every tier includes Microsoft 365 Business Premium licensing and ongoing work toward the stated SMB1001 certification level, rather than treating those as surprise add-ons. Full tier breakdown →

Plenty of Brisbane providers will quote you a range like that. Far fewer will show you the actual plans behind it.

Why a price range doesn't tell you what you're buying

Search around and you'll find plenty of Brisbane providers publishing a range, usually somewhere between $100 and $300 per user per month. That's useful for a ballpark, but a range doesn't tell you what separates the $100 end from the $300 end at any given provider, or which end you'll actually land on. We'd rather show you the real tiers so you can see exactly what each price point includes and rule us in or out from this page alone.

What actually drives the price

Team size and complexity

More users and more systems (multiple locations, legacy software, on-prem servers alongside cloud) means more to monitor and secure, this is the biggest single driver of cost.

Compliance requirements

Essential Eight, SMB1001, or cyber-insurance requirements add real, ongoing work: scoping, control implementation, evidence collection, testing, and reassessment. A business with no formal assurance requirement and one targeting Essential Eight Maturity Level 2 are not buying the same service, even if both quotes say "managed IT."

Response time and after-hours coverage

A 6-hour response SLA and a 2-hour SLA with a 15-minute target aren't the same product. Faster guaranteed response costs more to staff for.

Whether cybersecurity is bundled in

Some providers sell IT support and security as two separate line items. Bundling matters for the total number on your invoice, but check what's actually included either way, see the checklist below.

The trap in "per-user" pricing

Two quotes can both say "$150/user/month" and mean very different things. One might include 24/7 SOC monitoring with a human security analyst; the other might mean automated alerting only, with a real person only getting involved once you escalate. The number alone doesn't tell you what you're buying, see the questions below before you compare quotes on price alone.

Published Brisbane pricing varies widely because scope varies widely. Novaguard's $130–$240 tiers are not positioned as the cheapest option; the point is that you can see the service level, security controls, and licensing included at each price before speaking with us.

Prefer to pay hourly? Start with five hours

If you need occasional support, extra hands for your internal IT team or help with a defined project, a Block Hours support agreement gives you an alternative to per-user monthly pricing. Agreements start at five hours and include agreed contract rates, an SLA and a defined support scope.

Starting hourly lets you see how we communicate and solve problems before committing to a broader relationship. Block Hours covers the work agreed with you; ongoing monitoring, licensing and day-to-day management are included only where expressly scoped. Compare the support you need as well as the billing model.

Questions to ask any provider quoting you a price

A genuinely useful checklist, whoever you end up going with:

  1. Is Microsoft 365 licensing included, or a separate bill?
  2. What's the actual response SLA, and is it a target or a guarantee?
  3. Is monitoring automated-only, or does a real person review alerts?
  4. What happens if you need Essential 8 or SMB1001 later, is it an add-on you can activate, or a re-quote from scratch?
  5. Is the price genuinely fixed, or are there common "out of scope" charges that turn up later?

Frequently asked questions

Is managed IT worth it for a small business?

For very small teams, ad hoc support can still be sensible. Once a firm reaches roughly 10 staff, depends on Microsoft 365 every day, or needs to answer insurer and client-security questions, managed IT usually becomes the more dependable model because ownership, standards, and response commitments are clear.

Do managed IT prices include cybersecurity?

It depends on the provider, some sell them separately. Every Novaguard tier bundles core cybersecurity in by default; deeper coverage (24/7 SOC monitoring, dark web monitoring, application control) scales with the tier.

Why do prices vary so much between providers for what sounds like the same thing?

Mostly response SLA, whether monitoring is automated or human-reviewed, and how much compliance/security work is included by default rather than billed as an add-on. See the checklist above before comparing on price alone.
