The challenge
The business had worked with the same independent IT contractor for more than five years. As the contractor reduced his workload, responses became slower and recurring problems interrupted staff. Knowledge of the environment depended heavily on one person.
What Novaguard changed
Coordinated administrative handover
We worked with the outgoing contractor to transfer administrative access to Microsoft 365, the domain and DNS, licensing, the server, backups, and third-party services. The contractor cooperated with the transfer. The business retained ownership of its tenant and domain.
Documented the environment
We recorded the systems, configurations, known exceptions, and reasons behind existing decisions. The documentation belongs to the client and can support a future handover.
Investigated recurring faults
Support work included investigating causes and recording fixes. Staff gained a support path to the founder or a senior engineer familiar with the environment.
Results and verification
- Administrative control and ownership were clarified during a cooperative handover.
- The existing hybrid environment was retained and documented.
- Recurring issues were investigated and fixes recorded for future support.
Our engagement account describes most issues being resolved within a couple of hours after the transition. This is an observation about this client, not a measured service-wide benchmark or a response-time guarantee.
What this means for a similar organisation
A provider change can improve ownership and support without requiring a platform replacement. Begin while the outgoing provider is available, and agree the access and documentation needed before scheduling changes.
